Whiting is a small community in Mississippi County, Missouri, in the United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). Whiting's Story

The community of Whiting got its name from a person named Justin R. Whiting. He was a businessperson who worked in the local lumber industry. A post office was opened in Whiting in 1889. It helped people send and receive mail for about 20 years, closing down in 1909.

Whiting is located in the southwestern part of Mississippi County. It is very close to the city of East Prairie, which is just to its southwest. The main road that goes through Whiting is Missouri Route 105. This road connects Whiting to East Prairie. If you go north on Route 105 for about 9 miles, you will reach Charleston, which is the main town for the county.
