Whitney is a small village located in Dawes County, Nebraska, in the United States. It is a quiet community. In 2010, 77 people lived there. By 2020, the population was 62.

The Story of Whitney

Whitney has an interesting past! It was first called Dawes City. Then, for a short time, it was known as Earth Lodge. Finally, it was named Whitney to honor Peter Whitney, who worked for the railroad.

Not far from Whitney, there's a place called Old Fort Useless. This fort was built to protect early settlers. But guess what? It was never actually used for protection!

Whitney officially became a village in 1888.
