How Whitney Got Its Name
The community of Whitney was named after a man named Charles Whitney. He was an important person in Alabama's government after the Civil War. The Civil War was a big conflict in the United States that ended in 1865.
The Whitney Post Office
A post office was opened in Whitney in 1875. This means people in the community could send and receive mail right there. The post office served the area for many years, but it eventually closed down in 1967.
