A Look Back: Whitney's History
Whitney had its own post office for many years. It first opened in 1883, which was a long time ago! People could send and receive mail there. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1939.
The community of Whitney got its name from a person who owned a special kind of oven nearby. This oven was called a charcoal kiln, and it was used to make charcoal from wood.
