Wicksburg, also spelled Wicksburgh, is a small community in Houston County, Alabama, United States. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it is a group of homes and businesses that are part of the larger county, but it does not have its own separate city government. Wicksburg is located along Alabama State Route 103, about 13.5 miles (21.7 km) west of the city of Dothan.
The History of Wicksburg
Wicksburg was named to honor a person named Elijah Trawick. He was the very first "postmaster" for the area. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office. The post office in Wicksburg was open for many years, from 1878 until 1908.
