The Wicomico Youth and Civic Center is a large building in Salisbury, Maryland. It's a special place where many different events happen. People come here for concerts, sports, and other fun activities.
The main part of the center is a huge arena. It has about 30,000 square feet of space. There's also a smaller area, which is about 10,000 square feet.
Lots of people can fit inside! For big concerts, up to 6,000 people can watch. For stage shows, about 3,000 people can enjoy the performance. If there's a big dinner or banquet, 2,500 people can sit together. The ceiling in the main arena is very tall, about 42 feet high.
The Civic Center first opened its doors in 1980. It was built after an older auditorium, which opened in 1950, was damaged by fire in 1977.
Besides the main arena, the center has ten meeting rooms. These rooms together offer about 9,348 square feet of space. They are used for smaller gatherings, meetings, and classes.
Making the Center Better
The Wicomico Youth and Civic Center has been updated many times. These improvements happened between 2007 and 2017. The goal was to make the center more modern and comfortable for everyone.
What Was Improved
Many parts of the building were fixed or replaced. The lights and energy systems were upgraded to save power. Walls in the arena were repaired, and old folding chairs were replaced with new ones.
The stage curtains were changed, and the main lobby was made to look new again. The roof of the arena was also fixed. Some meeting rooms and hallways were repainted to look fresh.
The sound system got better, with speakers being rehung for clearer sound. A new scoreboard was added for sports events. Even the escalators were replaced! New ceiling tiles and doors were installed, and new stage risers were brought in for performers. All these changes help make the Civic Center a great place for events.
