Wigberto "Ka Bobby" Ebarle Tañada Sr. (born August 13, 1934) is a well-known Filipino politician. He was a member of the Senate of the Philippines, which is like the upper house of the country's lawmaking body. He also served in the House of Representatives of the Philippines, which is the lower house.
Wigberto Tañada was part of the Liberal Party. He is the son of Lorenzo Tañada, who was a famous senator. His father was known as the "grand old man of Philippine politics."

Early Life and Education
Wigberto Tañada was one of nine children. His parents were Lorenzo Tañada Sr. and Expedita Ebarle. He started his schooling at Quezon Elementary School. Later, he went to Gumaca Central School and St. John's Academy.
He finished his elementary and high school education at Ateneo de Manila University in 1948. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the same university in 1952. In 1956, he received his Bachelor of Laws degree from Manuel L. Quezon University. He then passed his bar exams. He also earned a Master of Laws degree from Harvard University in the United States.
Political Journey
Starting in Public Service
On March 7, 1986, Wigberto Tañada was appointed as the Commissioner of the Bureau of Customs. This government office collects taxes on goods coming into the country. After this, he decided to run for a higher position.
Serving in the Senate
In 1987, Tañada ran for senator and won. He was part of a group of political parties called LABAN. During his time as a senator, he became a member of the Judicial Bar Council. This council helps choose judges and other legal officials.
In 1991, he was part of a group of senators known as the "Magnificent 12." This group famously voted against a new agreement for the Subic Bay Naval Base. This decision meant that the United States military base would leave the Philippines.
In 1992, he was re-elected as a senator for another three-year term. He was the only candidate from the Liberal Party to win in that election. In 1993, he became the president of the Liberal Party.
In the House of Representatives
After his time as a senator ended in 1995, he was elected to the House of Representatives of the Philippines. He represented the 4th District of Quezon province. He was re-elected in 1998.
In 2001, he ran for senator again but did not win. In 1999, he received the TOFIL Award for his work in government and public service.
