The Story of Wild Mouse
Older Wild Mouse Rides at Lagoon
Did you know there were other Wild Mouse roller coasters at Lagoon before the current one? The very first Wild Mouse was a wooden roller coaster. It opened in 1965 after moving from the Seattle World's Fair. This ride was located in the North Midway area of Lagoon. It operated for a few years and then closed in 1971.
In 1973, the Wild Mouse roller coaster returned to Lagoon! This new version was called "The New Wilder Wild Mouse." It was built in the South Midway, which is the same spot where today's Wild Mouse stands. Many people believe it was the same wooden ride from 1965, just moved and renamed. This version of the ride entertained guests until 1989, when Lagoon decided to close it again.
You might have heard stories about accidents on these older Wild Mouse rides. However, there is no real proof or evidence that any serious accidents ever happened on any Wild Mouse ride at Lagoon.
The Current Wild Mouse Ride
The Wild Mouse you can ride today is a brand-new steel roller coaster. It opened in 1998. This ride has a similar design to the older versions. It was also built in the same South Midway location as the 1973 ride.
When it first opened in 1998, the ride did not have a special tunnel. This tunnel, which looks like a house, was added later. Riders started going through the themed tunnel in the year 2000.
Ride Design and Look
The Wild Mouse roller coaster has a unique design. It was built by a company called Maurer Söhne. The track twists and turns in and out of itself. It has many sharp, quick turns and sudden brakes. These features make the ride feel like you're going to fall off the edge! Eventually, riders reach the station again, completing the exciting trip.
When the current Wild Mouse first opened, it had purple and yellow colors. But in 2013, it got a fresh new look! The ride was repainted green and yellow. To fit the "Wild Mouse" name, the cars are painted to look like cute cats or mice.
