Where is Wildwood Located?
Wildwood is located in the beautiful state of Oregon. It's about 16 miles southeast of a larger town called Cottage Grove. This community sits along the path of what used to be the Oregon, Pacific and Eastern Railway (often called the OP&E).
A Look Back at Wildwood's History
Wildwood has a simple but interesting history.
Early Days and the Post Office
A post office opened in Wildwood in 1888. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. However, it closed down in 1914, and mail services were then handled by the nearby community of Disston.
The First Sawmill
In 1890, the very first sawmill in the upper Row River area was built right here in Wildwood. This mill used the power of Wildwood Falls to help cut wood. Sawmills were very important for the economy in this area, as Oregon has many forests.
The Railway Arrives
The Oregon, Pacific and Eastern Railway (OP&E) was built through Wildwood in 1903. This railway helped connect Wildwood to other places and made it easier to transport goods, especially timber from the sawmill.
