Wilhelm Holzbauer facts for kids
Wilhelm Holzbauer (born September 3, 1930 – died June 15, 2019) was an important Austrian architect. He was born in Vienna, the capital city of Austria. People knew him as a "pragmatic" (meaning practical and sensible) modernist architect. This means he designed buildings in a modern style that were also very functional.
He studied architecture at the Vienna University of Technology from 1950 to 1953. His teacher there was a famous architect named Clemens Holzmeister. Later, from 1956 to 1957, Wilhelm Holzbauer studied in the United States at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Fulbright Scholar. This is a special scholarship that allows students to study abroad.
From 1977 to 1998, he taught architecture as a professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. He helped teach many new architects during his time there.
Wilhelm Holzbauer passed away in Vienna on June 15, 2019, when he was 88 years old.
