Will Solace facts for kids

Will Solace is a cool character from the Percy Jackson books! He's a son of Apollo, the Greek god of music, healing, and the sun. Will is from Austin, Texas, and his mom, Naomi Solace, is a country singer.

Will started as a smaller character in Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus. But he became a really important hero in The Trials of Apollo and The Sun and the Star. He's known as the best combat medic at Camp Half-Blood and runs the camp's hospital, called the infirmary.

Will admits he's not the best archer, unlike some of his Apollo siblings. His special gifts are all about healing. But he's super brave! Besides healing, he can make a loud, painful whistle and even glow. Later, he learns to shoot light rays from his body and can make enemies sick using Apollo's plague powers.

Will's Early Adventures

Even though you might not have noticed him, Will was around during The Titan's Curse and The Battle of the Labyrinth. He might even be one of the unnamed Apollo campers mentioned in earlier books. Will shared that during The Titan's Curse, he was training to be a medic with his older brother, Michael Yew. That's when he first met Nico di Angelo, helping him after a training accident.

In The Last Olympian, Will used his healing powers to help Annabeth Chase when she got hurt. After his half-brother Michael Yew passed away in the Battle of Manhattan, Will became the leader of the Apollo cabin.

Helping New Campers

In The Lost Hero, Annabeth asked Will to show new demigods Leo Valdez, Piper McLean, and Jason Grace around camp. Leo jokingly called him "the archer dude." Will also complained about Annabeth messing up the Apollo Cabin's flying chariot.

The War Against Gaea

During The Blood of Olympus, Will went to a meeting with other cabin leaders. He worried he wasn't as good at fighting as his siblings because his powers were for healing. But Chiron, the camp director, told him he would be very important because healers are always needed.

Will even managed to calm down Clarisse La Rue just by touching her arm! Nico, who saw this in a dream, thought it was amazing because Clarisse usually doesn't let anyone touch her. Will also helped deliver Coach Hedge's baby boy, Chuck.

Even though he's not a fighter, Will volunteered to scout out the Roman camp with Lou Ellen and Cecil. He reunited with Nico, and they started arguing about Nico using his dark powers, which Will could tell were hurting him. Will also told Nico not to leave camp after the war, saying people wanted to be his friends.

The team messed up the Roman onagers (giant slingshots). Will used his ultrasonic whistle twice to help defeat enemies. In the big battle against Gaea's forces, Will and Nico faced Octavian, a Roman descendant of Apollo. Nico noticed Octavian looked unhealthy compared to Will. Nico convinced Will not to stop Octavian, who accidentally launched himself to his death while firing a weapon.

After the battle, Nico avoided Will, thinking Will would see him as a monster. But Will found him and told Nico he had to spend three days in the infirmary to recover! Nico then told Percy Jackson about his past feelings for Percy before joining Will.

Will and Nico's Relationship

In The Hidden Oracle, Nico and Will had started dating. When Will's father, Apollo, became mortal, Will and Nico helped him on his quest and taught him how to live as a human. After a battle, Will treated campers who got sick from Apollo's plague arrow.

In The Tower of Nero, Nico was sad after Jason Grace passed away, and Will was very supportive. During the final battle with Nero, Will and Nico helped Apollo. Will even showed up with Camp Half-Blood reinforcements when things looked bad for Apollo. After Nero was defeated, Will helped treat everyone's injuries.

Two weeks later, Apollo, now a god again, visited Will and Nico. They told him that Nico heard a voice from Tartarus calling for help, which they thought was Bob. Will decided to go with Nico into Tartarus to find Bob and rescue him, getting help from the troglodytes (underground creatures). Rachel gave them a prophecy for their quest.

Journey into Tartarus

In The Sun and the Star, two months after getting their prophecy, Nico and Will were the last kids at camp. Rachel repeated their prophecy for the twelfth time! Nico convinced Chiron to let him and Will go on an official quest to rescue Bob.

Their quest brought up some challenges in their relationship, especially because of the River Acheron in the Underworld. Will felt uncomfortable in the Underworld, which bothered Nico because it was like a second home to him. But Nico helped Will see it differently. Will also got weaker the further he was from his father's sunny domain.

While telling stories to Gorgyra for help, Nico and Will shared how their relationship started. Nico made the first move with a picnic, which accidentally turned into a public event. During the quest, Will learned to use his powers more for fighting. He shot light rays from his body, which defeated Epiales and singed Nyx's wing. Will even gave Nyx hay fever using Apollo's plague powers! He also made Nico's sword stronger by channeling his light through it. They successfully rescued Bob and his pet, Small Bob, from Tartarus and returned to Camp Half-Blood.
