This is a list of characters from the Percy Jackson & the Olympians fantasy book series by Rick Riordan.

Main Heroes

  • Perseus "Percy" Jackson: Percy is the main hero and narrator of the series. He is a son of Poseidon, the god of the sea. A prophecy says that a child of the "Big Three" (Zeus, Hades, or Poseidon) will make a big decision when they turn sixteen that could save or destroy Olympus. Percy often finds himself on quests, even when he's not chosen to lead them. He's a loyal friend and leader, especially when fighting against the Titan lord Kronos.
  • Annabeth Chase: Annabeth is a daughter of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle. She is very smart and loves architecture. She ran away from home when she was seven and found friends in Luke and Thalia, who helped her get to Camp Half-Blood. Annabeth helps Percy on many of his quests. She cares deeply for her friends and is a brilliant strategist.
  • Grover Underwood: Grover is a satyr, who is half-human and half-goat. He is Percy Jackson's best friend and protector. Grover has a special talent for finding powerful demigods, like Percy, Thalia, and Nico and Bianca di Angelo. He loves nature and is chosen by Pan, the god of the wild, to continue his work protecting the wilderness. Grover is also the boyfriend of a tree nymph named Juniper.

Greek Gods and Goddesses

  • Aphrodite: The goddess of love and beauty. She appears briefly in The Titan's Curse. Her children live in Cabin #10 at Camp Half-Blood. Aphrodite encourages Percy to find true love and seems interested in his feelings for Annabeth.
  • Apollo: The god of the sun, archery, healing, and prophecy. His children live in Cabin #7. Apollo drives a cool flying red car and loves to recite poetry, especially haikus. He helps Percy in The Titan's Curse and heals Annabeth's arm in The Last Olympian.
  • Ares: The god of war. His children are in Cabin #5. Ares first meets Percy in The Lightning Thief. He rides a fiery motorcycle and has a face full of scars. Ares tries to cause trouble between the gods but is defeated by Percy in a duel.
  • Artemis: The goddess of the hunt and Apollo's twin sister. She leads a group of teenaged girls called the Hunters, who promise to give up love for immortality. Artemis is important in The Titan's Curse, where she is captured and forced to hold up the sky. Percy helps rescue her.
  • Athena: The goddess of wisdom and battle strategy. She has intense gray eyes, like most of her children in Cabin #6. Athena is very intelligent and her plans rarely fail. She is cautious about Percy because of the prophecy that a child of the Big Three could destroy Olympus.
  • Dionysus: The god of wine and madness. He is the director of Camp Half-Blood as a punishment from Zeus. He often calls campers by the wrong names, like "Peter Johnson" instead of Percy Jackson.
  • Demeter: The goddess of the harvest. Her children live in Cabin #4. She is mentioned in The Sea of Monsters and appears in The Last Olympian. She really loves cereal!
  • Hades: The god of the Underworld. He is the husband of Persephone and the father of Nico and Bianca di Angelo. Percy first meets him in The Lightning Thief. Hades plays a big role in The Last Olympian, eventually helping to save Olympus.
  • Hephaestus: The god of forging and fire. His children are in Cabin #9. Hephaestus was thrown off Mt. Olympus when he was born because Hera thought he wasn't perfect. He helps Percy several times, especially in The Battle of the Labyrinth.
  • Hera: The goddess of marriage and queen of the gods. She has a small role in the series. Cabin #2 at Camp Half-Blood is for her, but it's always empty because she doesn't have demigod children.
  • Hermes: The god of travelers, communication, and thieves. His children and undetermined demigods stay in Cabin #11. Hermes helps Percy in The Sea of Monsters, hoping Percy can help his son, Luke, who joined the Titans.
  • Poseidon: The god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses. He is Percy's father, and his children live in Cabin #3. In the first book, he is wrongly accused of stealing Zeus's lightning bolt. He is a powerful ally, especially in The Last Olympian.
  • Persephone: The goddess of springtime and queen of the Underworld. She is married to Hades. She is much kinder and more beautiful in the spring and summer.
  • Zeus: The King of the Gods and the god of the sky. He is a main character in the first book and the father of Thalia Grace. His cabin is Cabin #1.

Lesser Gods and Goddesses

  • Hecate: The minor goddess of magic. She helps Kronos in The Last Olympian by attacking Olympus. She is the mother of Circe, who turns Percy into a guinea pig.
  • Hestia: The goddess of hearth and home. She appears as a young girl and tends to the hearth on Olympus. Hestia gave up her throne to Dionysus to prevent a war among the gods. She is very powerful and helps Percy when he battles Kronos.
  • Iris: The goddess of rainbows. She helps people send messages through Iris messages, which Percy uses often by throwing a golden drachma into a rainbow.
  • Janus: The Roman god of gates, doorways, beginnings, and endings. He appears in The Battle of the Labyrinth and has two faces, each thinking the opposite of the other.
  • Morpheus: The god of dreams. He appears in The Last Olympian, putting all mortals in Manhattan to sleep before Kronos's army invades.
  • Nemesis: The goddess of revenge and balance. She is the mother of Ethan Nakamura, who appears in The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian.
  • Pan: The god of the wild. Satyrs searched for him for two thousand years. He appears in The Battle of the Labyrinth and dies peacefully, passing his legacy to Grover.
  • Phobos: The god of fear. He appears in Percy Jackson and the Stolen Chariot and can show people their greatest fears. The word "Phobia" comes from his name.

Titans

  • Atlas: The Titan General and father of Zoe Nightshade. He was cursed to hold up the sky. He briefly escapes in The Titan's Curse but is tricked back into his punishment by Artemis and Percy.
  • Hyperion: The Titan of burning light. He appears in The Last Olympian in a battle against Percy. He has a fiery temper and wears golden armor. Grover defeats him, turning him into a giant maple tree.
  • Iapetus: A Titan who tries to steal the Sword of Hades in The Demigod Files. Percy drags him into the River Lethe, which makes him lose his memory, and Percy renames him "Bob the Titan."
  • Kronos: The Lord of the Titans and the main enemy of the series. He is the father of the "Big Three" (Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades). He tries to get Percy to join him. Kronos reforms himself and uses Luke as his host body. He leads the Titans to attack Olympus in The Last Olympian but is defeated by Luke's sacrifice.
  • Oceanus: The Titan of the ocean. He joins Kronos in The Last Olympian and fights Poseidon. He switches sides based on who he thinks will win.
  • Prometheus: The Titan of forethought. He appears in The Last Olympian, giving Percy Pandora's Box. He always tries to pick the winning side in a war.

Immortal Beings

  • Calypso: Calypso first appears in book four. She lives on an island where she nurses heroes back to health. She is cursed to fall in love with these heroes, who then leave her. Percy helps free her from her punishment in The Last Olympian.
  • Chiron: The activities director at Camp Half-Blood and a wise mentor to Percy and other demigods. Chiron is a centaur, half-human and half-horse. He is also the son of Kronos.
  • Zoë Nightshade: The leader of Artemis's Hunters. She is the daughter of the Titan General Atlas. Zoë is a skilled fighter with a hunting knife and bow. She sacrifices herself in The Titan's Curse and is turned into a constellation by Artemis.

Demigods

  • Bianca di Angelo: A daughter of Hades and later a Huntress of Artemis. She goes on a quest to rescue Artemis in The Titan's Curse and sacrifices herself to save her friends. Her death deeply affects her brother, Nico.
  • Charles Beckendorf: A son of Hephaestus and the head counselor for Cabin 9. He is known for being able to build almost anything. He sacrifices himself at the beginning of The Last Olympian to destroy Kronos's headquarters.
  • Clarisse La Rue: A daughter of Ares and the head of Cabin #5. She is hot-tempered and strong but also cares for her friends. She leads her cabin in battle and shows great courage, especially in The Last Olympian.
  • Connor Stoll: A son of Hermes and brother to Travis Stoll. They are known for being crafty and mischievous. Connor and Travis become the new counselors of Cabin 11 after Luke leaves.
  • Ethan Nakamura: A son of Nemesis. He feels his mother is not appreciated and fights for her. He joins Kronos's side but later tries to stop Kronos, sacrificing himself in The Last Olympian.
  • Katie Gardner: A daughter of Demeter and the head of her cabin. She fights in the war against the Titans and dislikes the Stoll brothers' pranks.
  • Luke Castellan: A son of Hermes and a major enemy in the series. He becomes a high-ranking member of Kronos's army because he feels abandoned by the gods. Luke is the host body for Kronos but ultimately sacrifices himself to defeat the Titan Lord in The Last Olympian.
  • Nico di Angelo: A son of Hades. After his sister Bianca dies, he blames Percy for a while. Nico has the power to summon ghosts and travel through shadows. He plays a crucial role in The Last Olympian, convincing Percy to bathe in the River Styx and bringing Hades to help defend Olympus.
  • Pollux: The son of Dionysus and twin brother of Castor. He fights and survives the war between the Titans and the Gods.
  • Silena Beauregard: A daughter of Aphrodite and the head of Cabin 10. She is revealed to be a spy for Kronos in The Last Olympian but sacrifices herself to lead the Ares cabin into battle, showing her true loyalty.
  • Thalia Grace: A daughter of Zeus. She ran away from home and became friends with Luke and Annabeth. Thalia sacrificed her life to save her friends and was turned into a pine tree. She is later brought back to life and joins the Hunters of Artemis.
  • Travis Stoll: A son of Hermes and older brother to Connor Stoll. Like his brother, he is known for being crafty and mischievous. He and Connor become the new counselors of Cabin 11.
  • Tyson: A Cyclops and the son of Poseidon, making him Percy's half-brother. Tyson is kind, gentle, and very loyal to Percy and Annabeth. He works in the Cyclopes' Forges in Poseidon's kingdom.
  • Will Solace: A son of Apollo. He is a healer and helps Percy in The Last Olympian.

Monsters

  • Briares: One of the three Hundred-Handed Ones, giant brothers to the Cyclopes. He has fifty different faces for his moods. Percy and his friends rescue him from prison in The Battle of the Labyrinth. Briares helps fight for the Olympians.
  • Cerberus: The three-headed dog who guards the entrance to the Underworld. Annabeth befriends him in The Lightning Thief.
  • Chimera: A monster that is part lion, part goat, and has a snake-headed tail. It fights Percy atop the St. Louis Arch.
  • Cyclops: One-eyed giants. Most are brutal, but Tyson is a kind exception.
  • Dracaenae: Snake women who are part of the Titan Lord's army.
  • Dr. Thorn: The vice principal of Bianca and Nico di Angelo's school. His true form is a manticore, a monster with a human face, lion body, and thorny tail.
  • Echidna: Part woman, part snake. She is the mother of many famous monsters, including Cerberus and Chimera.
  • Empousai: Shape-shifting beast women who look like vampires with different legs. Two of them pose as cheerleaders in The Battle of the Labyrinth.
  • The Furies: Three women who serve Hades. One of them, Alecto, pretends to be Percy's teacher, Mrs. Dodds, in the first book.
  • Hellhounds: Very large black dogs with glowing red eyes. They are common monsters in Luke's army. Mrs. O'Leary is a friendly hellhound owned by Daedalus, and later Percy.
  • Hydra: A monster with nine heads. If you chop off one head, two new ones grow back. It appears in The Sea of Monsters.
  • Kampe: A fierce monster that is half-woman, half-dragon. She imprisoned the Hundred-Handed Ones and Cyclopes. Briares defeats her in The Battle of the Labyrinth.
  • Ladon: A giant dragon that guards the Hesperides' apple tree. It poisons Zoe Nightshade in The Titan's Curse.
  • Medusa: A gorgon monster who can turn people to stone with her gaze. She tries to trick Percy, Annabeth, and Grover in The Lightning Thief.
  • Minotaur: The monster of the labyrinth. He chases Percy to Camp Half-Blood in the first book and is defeated by him. He returns in The Last Olympian as a general for Kronos's army.
  • Nemean Lion: A lion with a bulletproof and swordproof pelt. Percy defeats it by throwing astronaut food into its mouth.
  • Typhon: A very powerful monster and the father of many other monsters. He wakes up in The Last Olympian and destroys everything in his path, fighting against the gods.

Mortals

  • Gabriel "Gabe" Ugliano: Percy's mean stepfather, known as "Smelly Gabe." His bad smell actually protected Percy from monsters. At the end of Book 1, Percy's mom turns him to stone using Medusa's head.
  • May Castellan: Luke's mother. She tried to become the Oracle but was driven crazy by Hades's curse, which gave her glimpses of her son's future.
  • Dr. Chase: Annabeth's father, a professor who knows a lot about war. He helps Annabeth and Percy battle Atlas in The Titan's Curse.
  • Paul "Blowfish" Blofis: Sally Jackson's boyfriend and later husband, making him Percy's stepfather. He is a kind and supportive figure who fully believes in the world of gods and monsters. He even helps fight in The Last Olympian.
  • Rachel Elizabeth Dare: A mortal girl who can see through the Mist, which hides the monster world from humans. She helps Percy and Annabeth navigate the labyrinth. In The Last Olympian, she becomes the new Oracle of Delphi.
  • Sally Jackson: Percy's loving mother. She married Gabe to protect Percy from monsters. She can also see through the Mist. She marries Paul Blofis in the fifth book.

Other Characters

  • Blackjack: A pure black pegasus (flying horse) and one of Percy's loyal companions. Percy rescues him from Kronos's minions in The Sea of Monsters, and Blackjack always feels like he owes Percy a favor.
  • Juniper: A tree nymph and Grover Underwood's girlfriend.
  • King Minos: A ghost that Nico summons in book four, pretending to help him bring Bianca back. He is actually trying to return to life himself.
  • The Oracle of Delphi: The spirit that gives prophecies. It used to live in a mummified body until it transferred to Rachel Elizabeth Dare in The Last Olympian.
  • Party Ponies: A large family of rowdy centaurs, Chiron's relatives. They help Chiron and the gods fight in major battles, like in The Sea of Monsters and The Last Olympian.
  • Silenus: A member of the Council of Cloven Elders, a group of old satyrs. He often dislikes Grover and thinks he is a liar.
