Forest History: How It Began
Willard Brook State Forest was created in 1930. The state bought the land to protect it and allow people to enjoy nature.
During the 1930s and 1940s, a group called the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) helped improve many parks. The CCC was a program for young men during a tough economic time. Even though there wasn't a CCC camp right in this forest, workers from nearby camps came here. From 1933 to 1940, they built new features for visitors. They worked on areas like Damon Pond and Trap Brook Falls.
