William Byron, 3rd Baron Byron (born 1636 – died 13 November 1695) was an important English nobleman and politician. He was also a poet. A nobleman is someone from a high-ranking family, and a peer is a member of the nobility.
Meet William Byron
William Byron was born in 1636. His parents were Richard Byron, 2nd Baron Byron and Elizabeth Rossell. William grew up in a noble family.
Becoming a Baron
In 1679, William's father passed away. This meant William became the 3rd Baron Byron. A Baron is a title of nobility, and it meant he had a special place in society. He also became a Member of the House of Lords. This is like a part of the government in England. He served there from 1679 until he died.
William Byron passed away on November 13, 1695. He was 59 years old. After his death, his son, William Byron, 4th Baron Byron, took over his title.
His Family Life
Lord Byron was married twice. His first marriage was in 1660 to the Honourable Elizabeth Chaworth. She was the daughter of John Chaworth, 2nd Viscount Chaworth.
His Children
William and Elizabeth had five sons together. Sadly, four of their sons passed away when they were very young. Their sons were:
- Hon. William Byron (born before 1670)
- Hon. Richard Byron (born before 1670)
- Hon. John Byron (born before 1670)
- Hon. Ernestus Byron (born before 1670)
- William Byron, 4th Baron Byron (1669/70–1736)
Later Marriages
Lord Byron married again on June 25, 1685. His second wife was Elizabeth Stonhouse. She was the daughter of Sir George Stonhouse, 3rd Bt..
He also had a daughter named Catherine Byron. It's not clear if she was from his first or second marriage. Catherine passed away in 1746. She married Arthur Cole, 1st Baron Ranelagh, but they did not have any children.
