William Daniel Quarles Jr. (born January 16, 1948) is a former United States district judge. He served on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

Early Life and Education
William Daniel Quarles Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1948. He attended public schools in Baltimore City. In 1966, he graduated from Baltimore City College high school.
College Studies
After high school, Quarles continued his education. He earned an Associate of Arts degree from Community College of Baltimore in 1967. Later, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1976.
Law School
William Quarles Jr. then decided to study law. He earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1979. This degree came from the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America.
Legal Career
After finishing law school, Quarles began his legal career. From 1979 to 1982, he worked as a law clerk. He assisted Judge Joseph C. Howard Sr. at the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
Working as a Lawyer
After his clerkship, Quarles worked in private law firms. He also served as an Assistant United States Attorney in Baltimore. In this role, he helped represent the U.S. government in legal cases. He worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney until 1986.
Becoming a Judge
In 1996, William Quarles Jr. became a judge. He was appointed as an Associate Circuit Judge. This position was for the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
Federal Judicial Service
On January 7, 2003, President George W. Bush chose Quarles for a federal judge position. He was nominated to fill a seat left by Judge William M. Nickerson. The United States Senate approved his nomination on March 12, 2003.
Serving as a Judge
William Quarles Jr. officially became a federal judge on March 14, 2003. He served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. He retired from his active role as a judge on February 1, 2016.
Published Work
Judge Quarles is also an author. He wrote a book titled Summary Adjudication: Dispositive Motions and Summary Trials. It was published in 1991.
