Arthur William George Patrick Hay, 15th Earl of Kinnoull (May 26, 1935 – June 7, 2013) was an important person in British politics. He was known as Viscount Dupplin when he was very young, until 1938. He was a hereditary peer, which means he inherited a special title. He also worked as a surveyor and a farmer. He was a member of the House of Lords, which is part of the British Parliament.

His main titles were Earl of Kinnoull, Viscount Dupplin, and Lord Hay of Kinfauns. These titles came from the Peerage of Scotland. He also held the title Baron Hay of Pedwardine, which came from the Peerage of Great Britain.

About William Hay

Arthur Hay was often called William. He was born in 1935. He was the third child but the first son of the 14th Earl of Kinnoull. His mother was Mary Ethel Isobel Meyrick.

When he was only three years old, William became the Earl of Kinnoull. This happened because his father passed away at age 35.

Education and Early Career

William went to Eton College, a famous school in England. After that, he studied at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester. This university teaches about farming and land.

When he was 22, he took his place in the House of Lords. This is a big step for someone with a hereditary title.

Work in Politics

William was a junior conservative whip in the House of Lords from 1966 to 1968. A "whip" helps make sure members of their political party vote together. He also spoke for the opposition party on topics about aviation (air travel).

He was a member of the assembly for the Council of Europe. Here, he worked on ideas for cooperation in fishing and farming. He also led the National Council on Inland Transport. He was a vice-president of the National Association of Local Councils.

Professional Life and Hobbies

Besides his political work, William was a senior partner at Langley Taylor Surveyors in London. He worked there for over 30 years. A surveyor is someone who measures and maps land. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

William enjoyed sports. He played squash and tennis. He was also a member of the Royal Company of Archers. This is a ceremonial group that acts as the monarch's bodyguard in Scotland.

Family Life

On June 1, 1961, William married Ann Gay Lowson. Her father was Sir Denys Lowson. William and Ann had three children together. Their children were named Charles, Melissa, and Iona. Charles later became the 16th Earl of Kinnoull. Lady Kinnoull, William's wife, passed away in 2016.
