William Hugh McDowell (born December 31, 1846 – died May 15, 1864) was a young student. He was a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). William was one of the VMI cadets who died during the Battle of New Market. This battle happened during the American Civil War.
William joined VMI on August 22, 1863. He was very young when he died in the fighting. Other cadets, named Cabell and Stanard, were also hurt in the same attack.
