William Standon was the son of John and Elizabeth Standon. He started his career working for the King! From 1378 to 1396, he was a buyer for the King's household. This meant he helped get supplies for the royal family. He also worked as a tax collector for London in 1382. He was part of different groups called Commissions, which helped with special tasks.

Becoming a Leader in London

William Standon was a member of the Worshipful Company of Grocers. This was a very old and important group for people who traded spices and other goods. Being part of this group helped him become an Alderman of London. An Alderman was a senior member of the city's government.

In 1386, William Standon became the Sheriff of London. The Sheriff was a powerful official who helped keep law and order in the city. Later, he was chosen to be the Mayor of London two times! He served as Mayor in 1392 and again in 1407. The Mayor was the most important leader of the city.

William Standon was also a Member of Parliament (MP). This meant he was elected to represent people in the Parliament of England. Parliament was where important decisions and laws were made for the country.
