Modern versions of the book usually have ten stories. When it was first published in 1935, it had eleven stories. One story, "William and the Nasties," was removed from new editions after 1986. This was because some parts of the story were considered not suitable for young readers today. Another story, "William and the League of Perfect Love," has also been removed from some versions.
