The Willoughby of Chevy Chase Condominium

The Willoughby of Chevy Chase is a very tall building in Montgomery County, Maryland. It's a condominium, which means people own their own apartments inside it. This big building is located right outside Washington, D.C..

It was designed by a famous architect named Vlastimil Koubek. The building first opened in 1969. Back then, it was called the Willoughby Apartments and was built for people to rent fancy apartments. When it opened, it was the biggest home building in the whole D.C. area!

Over time, the Willoughby changed owners a few times. Eventually, a company that specializes in turning rental apartments into condos bought it. In 1982, the apartments were sold to individual owners, and they took control of the building.

What's Inside?

The Willoughby has 815 different homes. These include small "efficiency" apartments, and larger ones with one, two, or three bedrooms.

Besides homes, the building also has:

  • Offices for businesses

  • A restaurant
  • 701 parking spaces for cars

  • A front desk with staff 24 hours a day
  • Rooms for doing laundry
  • A library
  • A party room for events
  • A lounge on the roof
