Wilson Siding facts for kids
Wilson Siding, also called Wilson, is a small community in southern Alberta, Canada. It's part of Lethbridge County.
This place is found where two main roads meet: Highway 4 and Highway 845. It's about 13 km (8.1 mi) southeast of the city of Lethbridge.
Wilson Siding got its name from E.H. Wilson. He worked for a railway company. In 1908, a train stop was added here. It was a special spot where steam trains could stop to get water. This was very important for trains back then!
What Are Grain Terminals?
Wilson Siding is well-known for being a major place where grain is shipped out in southern Alberta. It has two very large concrete buildings called grain terminals.
These terminals are like giant storage bins for crops such as wheat and barley. Farmers bring their harvested grain here. Then, the grain is loaded onto trains and sent to other places.
Who Owns the Terminals?
One of the grain terminals is owned by a company called Parrish and Heimbecker. The other one, called Lethbridge Inland Terminal, was first built and run by farmers themselves. Later, it was sold to another company named Viterra.
