Exploring American History Collections
The Research and Collections Division is located on the University of Texas campus in Austin. This is the main place where the center keeps most of its collections.
You can find many things here, like books, important papers, photographs, and sound recordings. This division was updated in 2017 to make it even better for keeping history safe.
The Sam Rayburn Museum: A Look at Leadership

The Sam Rayburn Museum is in Bonham. This museum shows the life and work of Sam Rayburn. He was a very important politician from Texas.
Sam Rayburn served as the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives for many years. This means he was the leader of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Rayburn Museum became part of the Briscoe Center in 1991. You can visit it for free.
The Briscoe-Garner Museum: Two Texas Leaders
The Briscoe-Garner Museum is located in Uvalde. This museum tells the stories of two important Texas political figures. They are John Nance Garner and Dolph Briscoe. Both of them were born in Uvalde.
The city of Uvalde gave the museum to the University of Texas at Austin in 1999. It then became part of the Briscoe Center. In 2011, the museum was renamed the Briscoe-Garner Museum to honor Governor Dolph Briscoe.
Winedale: A Glimpse into Early Texas Life
Winedale is a special place with old buildings from the 1800s. It is located on 225 acres of land near Round Top. Winedale shows examples of early Texas architecture and crafts.
It also has a center where you can learn more about history. Winedale offers classes and other programs for the public.
How Winedale Was Restored
A woman named Miss Ima Hogg was very involved in restoring Winedale. She visited the site every week to check on the project. She worked with John Young, an architect, who managed the restoration.
Local workers were hired and trained to help fix up the old buildings. They used materials that were like the ones used long ago. This helped make sure Winedale looked just as it did in the 1800s.
