Winford Gladstone Boynes III (born May 17, 1957) is a retired American professional basketball player. He was born in Greenville, South Carolina. Winford was a 6-foot-6-inch (198 cm) guard who weighed 185 pounds (84 kg). He played college basketball at the University of San Francisco from 1975 to 1978.

Winford Boynes was born in Greenville, South Carolina. He grew up loving basketball. He played college basketball for the University of San Francisco. He was a star player there from 1975 to 1978. His great playing earned him recognition as an All-American twice.

Joining the NBA

In 1978, Winford Boynes was chosen in the 1978 NBA draft. The New Jersey Nets picked him as the 13th player overall. He played for the Nets for two seasons. From 1978 to 1980, he played 133 games for the team. During this time, he scored about 9 points per game. He also got about 2 rebounds and 1 assist per game.

Moving to the Mavericks

In 1980, the Dallas Mavericks picked Winford Boynes. This happened during an NBA expansion draft. The Mavericks were a brand new team joining the league. Winford was part of their very first game.
