Wing Commander Academy is an exciting animated TV show from 1996. It was made by Universal Cartoon Studios. The show is based on the popular Wing Commander video game series.
This animated series tells stories that happen before the first Wing Commander game. It aired in the United States from September to December 1996. You could watch it on the USA Network as part of their "USA Action Extreme Team" block.
Spacecraft in the Series
The show features many cool spacecraft. These ships first appeared in the Wing Commander video games. The main characters often fly Scimitar and Broadsword fighters. These are used for attacking and bombing enemy ships.
The Kilrathi, who are the alien enemies, use Dralthi and Grikath ships. The main spaceship for the heroes is the TCS Tiger's Claw. It is a huge carrier ship, just like in the first Wing Commander game.
Sometimes, other famous ships from later games appear. These include the Arrow, Hellcat, and Longbow from Wing Commander III. The Avenger from Wing Commander IV also makes an appearance. The series also introduces new, large warships. These include the Achilles class destroyer and the Agan Ra Sivar class dreadnaught.

The series has 13 action-packed episodes. Each one follows the adventures of the cadets. They learn to fly and fight in space.

Crossover Episodes
Episode 8, "Recreation," is special. It's the last part of a four-episode story. This story connected Wing Commander Academy with three other cartoons. These shows also aired on the "USA Action Extreme Team" block.
The other shows in this crossover were:
- Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm (episode 9, "Resurrection," Part 3)
- Savage Dragon (episode 21, "Endgame," Part 2)
- Street Fighter (episode 22, "The Warrior King," Part 1)
This big story featured a character called the Warrior King and a special orb. However, the main characters from each show did not actually meet each other in person.
