Wirt is a small, unincorporated community in Carter County, Oklahoma, United States. It is located about three miles west of the town of Healdton.
Wirt was first called Ragtown. This name came from the many tents where oil workers lived. These workers arrived when the area's oil business began to boom. The community was later officially named Wirt after Wirt Franklin. He was an important person in the oil business and drilled the very first oil well nearby.
The community's post office opened on December 12, 1914. At its busiest time, Wirt had many important places. These included a school, a movie theater, a bank, and a drug store. It also had two gas stations, two churches, and two grocery stores. However, the town faced tough times. It burned down several times, and its population decreased when the oil boom ended.
