Wisner Township is a small community located in Tuscola County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. It's a type of local government area called a civil township. In 2020, about 604 people lived here.

A Look Back: History

The first people to officially claim land in this area were Joshua Terry in 1853, Green Bird in 1854, and Isaiah Jester in 1855. Wisner Township was officially set up in 1861. It was named after Moses Wisner, who was the Governor of Michigan from 1859 to 1861.

Bay Park

Bay Park is a community found in the northeast part of the township. It's right on the edge of Saginaw Bay and borders Akron Township.

Bradleyville

Bradleyville is another community in the township. You can find it on Bradleyville Road, just north of Elmwood Road.

Oakhurst

Oakhurst is a community located on Saginaw Bay. It's near the intersection of Allen and Garner Road.

Quanicassee

Quanicassee is a community located where the Quanicassee River meets Saginaw Bay. The name "Quanicassee" comes from Native American words meaning "lone tree." This area was an important fishing village for Native Americans long before settlers arrived. A post office called "Quanicassee City" opened here in 1886 and operated until 1902.

Wisner Community

The community of Wisner is on the eastern side of the township. It's located near the border with Akron Township, around the meeting point of Vassar Road and M-25/Bay City Forestville Road. A post office named Wisner was open from 1871 to 1905.
