Wolfgang Dremmler (born on July 12, 1954) is a German former professional footballer. He played as a midfielder, which is a player who helps both defend and attack on the field. Dremmler was known for his strong play in the middle of the field.
Before becoming a professional footballer, Dremmler was trained as a metalworker. He played a big part in the West Germany team. This team reached the final of the 1982 FIFA World Cup in 1982. The final match was played against Italy at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Wolfgang Dremmler played in 310 matches in the Bundesliga, which is Germany's top football league. He scored 15 goals during these games. He played for two main clubs: Eintracht Braunschweig and FC Bayern Munich. He joined FC Bayern Munich in 1979. A famous player named Paul Breitner suggested that Bayern sign him.
With Bayern Munich, Dremmler won many important titles. He helped the team win the Bundesliga four times. He also won the German Cup three times. He had to retire from playing football in 1986 because of a knee injury.
For his country, West Germany, Dremmler played his first game on January 7, 1981, against Brazil. In total, he played 27 games for his country and scored three goals. After he stopped playing, Dremmler continued to work in football. He retired from coaching at the end of the 2016–17 season. His last job was leading the youth development center for Bayern Munich.
