Wollishofen facts for kids
Wollishofen is a cool neighbourhood in Zürich, a big city in Switzerland. It's part of Zürich's 2nd district. You can find it on the eastern side of the Uetliberg mountain.
Long ago, Wollishofen was its own small town. But in 1893, it became part of Zürich. Today, about 15,592 people live here. The area covers about 5.75 square kilometres (that's about 2.2 square miles).

Where is Wollishofen?
Wollishofen sits between the Sihl river and Lake Zurich. It marks the southern edge of Zürich on the left side of the lake. A big part of the district, about 28.5%, is actually covered by the lake!
To the south, Wollishofen shares borders with the towns of Adliswil and Kilchberg.
Special Buildings: Werkbundsiedlung Neubühl
The Werkbundsiedlung Neubühl is a group of special buildings. They were built between 1930 and 1932. These buildings are examples of a style called New Objectivity. This style focuses on simple, clear designs. Many famous architects worked on this project.
Getting Around Wollishofen
It's easy to get around Wollishofen! The A3 motorway runs through it. You can also catch tram route 7 here. This tram is run by Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich, the local transport company.
The Zürich Wollishofen railway station is another important stop. Trains on lines S8 and S24 of the Zürich S-Bahn stop here. There's also Bus-Line 72.
The Zürichsee-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft (ZSG) has its ship yard in Wollishofen. This is where the boats for Lake Zurich are kept and repaired.

Theater and Arts
The Zürcher Theater Spektakel is a big international theatre festival. It happens every August. This festival is one of the most important in Europe for modern performing arts. You can find it on the Landiwiese lakeshore and on the Saffa-Insel.
The Rote Fabrik is a well-known cultural centre. It's also located in Wollishofen. It used to be a factory, but now it's a cool place for concerts and art. You can also find Lydia Escher's old home, the Villa Belvoir, here.

Wollishofen has good schools. One of them is the SIS Swiss International School.
Sports in Wollishofen
If you love football, Wollishofen has its own team! It's called FC Wollishofen. They play their games at a stadium called Sonnau, on Zürichstrasse. As of 2020–21, the team plays in the 2. Liga Region Zürich. This is the sixth level of football in Switzerland.
