Adliswil is a town and a municipality in Switzerland. It is located in the Horgen district, within the Canton of Zürich.
The official language in Adliswil is German. However, most people speak a local dialect called Swiss German.

History of Adliswil
Adliswil was first mentioned in old records around the year 1050. Back then, it was called Adelenswile. Later, its name changed slightly to Adololdiswile and then Adeloswile.
During a time called the Helvetic Republic, a small village named Buchenegg became part of the municipality of Stallikon. In 1893, two other areas, Oberleimbach and Sood, joined Adliswil.
Geography and Location
Adliswil covers an area of about 7.8 square kilometers (3 square miles). A good part of this land, about 23.4%, is used for farming. Forests cover 32.1% of the area.
Most of the land, 42.9%, is built up with buildings and roads. Only a small part, 1.7%, is made up of rivers or other non-productive land.
Adliswil is located in the Zimmerberg region. It sits in the valley of the Sihl river, just south of the big city of Zürich. It is close to other towns like Kilchberg, Rüschlikon, and Langnau am Albis.

Adliswil has a population of 19,049. About 38.5% of the people living in Adliswil are from other countries. The population has grown by about 4% over the last ten years.
Most people in Adliswil speak German (80.9%). Italian is the second most common language (4.9%), followed by English (2.5%).

Transportation in Adliswil
Adliswil is special because it has a cable car called the Felseneggbahn. This cable car connects the town to Felsenegg, a popular spot on the edge of town.
