Rüschlikon is a town in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Zürich. You can find it on the west side of Lake Zürich.

What is Rüschlikon?
The Coat of Arms
Rüschlikon has a special coat of arms. It shows a white shield with a red rose. The rose has a yellow center and a green stem with two leaves.
A Look at Rüschlikon's Past
The first signs of people living here are very old. They found graves from the early Iron Age. This was between 800 and 450 BC. The name Rüschlikon comes from an old German language. It first appeared in writings around the year 1153.
In the early 1980s, Rüschlikon closed off some small streets. This was to stop traffic from using them as shortcuts.
The Swiss Re Centre for Global Dialogue is in Rüschlikon. It is a place where people meet to discuss important global topics. The center is built on the land of Villa Bodmer. This villa used to belong to a Swiss businessman named Karl Martin Leonhard Bodmer.
A very rich person, Ivan Glasenberg, lives in Rüschlikon. He is the CEO of a company called Glencore. When Glencore became a public company, Mr. Glasenberg paid a huge amount of tax to Rüschlikon. He paid 360 million Swiss francs. This money helped the people of Rüschlikon. They were able to lower their tax rate by 7%. Most people agreed to this in a public vote.

Rüschlikon covers an area of about 2.9 square kilometers. A good part of this land is used for farming (20.5%). Forests cover 23.3% of the area. Most of the land (55.5%) has buildings or roads. A small part (0.7%) is non-productive, like rivers.
Rüschlikon is next to Kilchberg to the north. Lake Zürich is to the east. Thalwil is to the south. Adliswil and Langnau am Albis are to the west. The land slopes steeply up from Lake Zürich. This slope leads to a hill called Zimmerberg.
Even though many people who live here work in Zürich, Rüschlikon has its own charm. It has a small town center and parks by the lake. There are also many wooded areas and farms in the hills. These farms have animals like cattle, horses, and sheep. They also grow crops.

Important Places
IBM Zürich Research Lab
Rüschlikon is home to the IBM Zurich Research Lab. This is a very important research center. Scientists here have won Nobel prizes in Physics. Heinrich Rohrer and Gerd Binnig won in 1986. Karl Alexander Müller and Johannes Georg Bednorz won in 1987.
Park im Grüene
The "Dutti-Park," also known as Park im Grüene, is a lovely park. It was given to the public by Adele Duttweiler. She was the wife of Gottlieb Duttweiler. He started the famous Migros grocery store chain.
Getting Around Rüschlikon
The town has good transport links. There are frequent train connections to Zürich. These are run by the Swiss Federal Railways and S-Bahn Zürich. There is also a bus service (the 165 bus) to Zürich. In the summer, you can take a boat to other towns on the lake. Rüschlikon railway station is a stop for the S8 and S24 train lines. Tourist boat trips also sail from Zürich and Rapperswil. Rüschlikon is also connected by roads and the A3 highway.
