Wolverhampton Outlaws facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Wolverhampton Outlaws were an American football team from Wolverhampton, England. They played their games at the Wolverhampton Rugby Club.

The Outlaws had a career record of 38 wins, 33 losses, and 2 ties. Their team colours were black and orange. They were champions of their conference in 1991.

Team History

The Wolverhampton Outlaws team was formed in 1985, and their first season playing American football was in 1986. Early on, they joined forces with another team, the Bilston Apaches. Over a few years, the Outlaws moved up through different leagues, eventually reaching the BNGL National League.

Key Seasons and Achievements

In 1990, a player named Danny Martin had an amazing season. He scored 9 touchdowns by returning "punts" (when the other team kicks the ball away). The Outlaws had a strong year, finishing with 8 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie in the BNGL National Division Midlands Conference.

The team's best year was 1991. They won 9 games and lost only 1, becoming the champions of the BNGL National Division Midlands Conference. They even made it to the semi-finals of the league playoffs.

However, after a difficult 1992 season where they won only 1 game and lost 9, the team stopped playing. Some of their players, along with players from other teams like the West Bromwich Fireballs and the former Bilston Apaches, went on to form a new team called the West Bromwich Vipers. This new team later became known as the Wolverhampton Vipers. The Outlaws had also merged with the Cannock Chase Giants (who were once called the Wrekin Giants) around 1993 or 1994.
