Club History
Wolverhampton United was formed in 1976. It was created when two other local football clubs, Oxley F.C. and Whitmore Old Boys F.C. joined together. The new club then became part of the West Midlands (Regional) League.
In their very first season, 1976–77, Wolverhampton United won the championship of Division One B. This was a great start for the new team! A few years later, in the 1981–82 season, they finished as "runners-up" (meaning second place). This good result helped them move up to the Premier Division, which is a higher league.
During the 1980s, the club took part in the FA Vase competition four times. This is a special knockout tournament for semi-professional football clubs in England. Their best performance was in 1982–83, when they reached the Fourth Round.
The club faced some ups and downs. In 1987–88, they were "relegated," which means they moved down to a lower division. However, they worked hard and returned to the Premier Division in 1996 after finishing second again. They were relegated once more in 1999 but quickly bounced back. They finished as runners-up in 1999–2000 and then became champions in 2000–01.
After some more changes, they moved back to Division One in 2003–04. Sadly, after many years of playing, Wolverhampton United Football Club stopped operating in 2019.
