About the Club

By 1989, this club was very old. It was the oldest active women's club building in all of Ventura County. The club first opened a library in 1909. It was located at the A.O.U.W. building.
The Clubhouse Building
The club's own building, called the clubhouse, opened in 1915. It was built in the Bungalow style. This style is known for its simple, cozy design.
The clubhouse served as the town's main library for many years. It was the library until 1935. In that year, the club successfully helped open a regular public library for the town.
The building is also known simply as the Women's Improvement Club. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. This listing included the main building and the land around it.
