Woodbridge is a small, quiet area in Tasmania, Australia. It is located in the Kingborough region, which is part of the greater Hobart area. Woodbridge is about 26 kilometers (16 miles) south of the town of Kingston.

In 2021, a survey showed that 547 people lived in Woodbridge. The average age of people living there was 54 years old. There were 180 families, with about 1.8 children per family. Woodbridge is also about 38 kilometers (24 miles) south of Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania.

History of Woodbridge

The land around Woodbridge has been very important to Aboriginal Tasmanians for a very long time, possibly as far back as 40,000 years. They have a deep connection to this area.

Woodbridge was officially recognized as a locality in 1967. It was first called Peppermint Bay and is located right on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. The first European settlers arrived in 1847. A post office called Peppermint Bay Post Office opened on May 15, 1854. Later, in 1881, the town's name was changed to Woodbridge. In 2006, the population of Woodbridge was 271 people.

Geography and Location

Woodbridge is located right next to the water. The eastern side of the area is bordered by the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. This channel is a waterway that separates Bruny Island from the main island of Tasmania.

Roads and Transport

The main road that goes through Woodbridge is the Channel Highway (also known as Route B68). It runs from the north to the south of the area. Another road, Route C627 (Woodbridge Hill Road), starts from the Channel Highway and heads west before leaving the area. These roads help people travel to and from Woodbridge.
