History of Woodbridge Township
Woodbridge Township has a long history, dating back to the 1800s.
How the Township Started
Woodbridge Township was officially created in 1840. It was formed from the southern part of a larger area called Fayette Township. At first, Woodbridge Township stretched all the way south to the border with Ohio. However, in 1850, Amboy Township was created from the very southern part of Woodbridge Township.
The Oldest Township Hall
The Woodbridge Township Hall, located in the community of Frontier, is a very old and important building. It was built in 1855. The township board decided to spend $250 to build it and $10 to buy the land. The building was finished in 1856 and has had some additions over the years. In 1975, the Michigan Townships Association confirmed that Woodbridge Township Hall is the oldest township hall in Michigan that is still being used today!
