The Wilson Center brings together smart people from around the world. They study important global issues and share their ideas with leaders and the public.

How the Wilson Center Works

The Wilson Center is part of the Smithsonian Institution, but it has its own special group of leaders called a board of trustees. This board includes both government officials and people from private life. The President of the United States chooses these leaders.

The center also publishes an online magazine called the Wilson Quarterly. This magazine shares the research and ideas of the scholars.

Funding the Center

The Wilson Center gets its money from different places. About one-third of its yearly budget comes from the U.S. government. The center is located in the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, a government building, and doesn't have to pay rent for 30 years.

The rest of the money comes from other sources. These include foundations, special grants, companies, and individuals who want to support the center's work.

Who Leads the Wilson Center?

The board of trustees guides the Wilson Center. The President of the United States appoints the members of this board for six-year terms.

Currently, Bill Haslam is the chairman of the board. Other members include Drew Maloney, Nick Adams, Thelma Duggin, Brian Hook, David Jacobson, Timothy Pataki, Alan N. Rechtschaffen, and Louis Susman. Some government officials are also on the board, like Antony Blinken, Lonnie Bunch, Miguel Cardona, David Ferriero, Carla Hayden, Shelly Lowe, and Xavier Becerra.

In 2021, Mark Andrew Green became the new president, director, and CEO of the Wilson Center. He started his role on March 15, 2021.
