Woodson is part of a larger area called the Little Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. This means it's connected to the bigger cities of Little Rock, North Little Rock, and Conway. The community, along with Woodson Lake and Wood Hollow, is named after Ed Wood Sr. He was an important businessman and landowner around the year 1900. Woodson is right next to the Wood Plantation, which was the biggest plantation owned by Ed Wood Sr.

History of Woodson
The community of Woodson began when Ed Wood Sr. moved from Alabama to central Arkansas around 1880. For a long time, this area was called "Wood Hollow." This name honored Ed Wood Sr. and his important purchase in 1890. He bought the first plantation in Arkansas that was owned by an African American.
Important Meetings at Wood Plantation
After the Reconstruction period, Ed Wood Sr. hosted special meetings at his Wood Plantation. These meetings were for the Prince Hall Freemasonry, a group he helped start in Arkansas. He held a very high rank in this organization.
During these meetings, Ed Wood Sr. met other important African American leaders. These included Scipio Africanus Jones, John E. Bush, Chester W. Keatts, and John Hamilton McConico. From these gatherings, a strong African American community grew. While Wood continued to support the Prince Hall Lodge, his friends went on to create another important group called the Mosaic Templars of America.
