The Woolworth Building is a very tall building, called a skyscraper, located in New York City, United States. It stands 241 meters (792 feet) high and has 57 floors. This amazing building was finished in 1913. For a while, it was one of the tallest buildings in the world.
Building History
A smart businessman named Frank Winfield Woolworth wanted this building built. He owned a famous company called F. W. Woolworth Company. A talented architect named Cass Gilbert designed the building. People used to call it the Cathedral of Commerce. This meant it was like a grand church for business.
World's Tallest Building
The Woolworth Building was the tallest building in the world for many years. It held this record from 1913 until 1930. Before it was built, the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower was the tallest. Later, in 1930, the Bank of the Manhattan Company Building took its place. That building is now known as The Trump Building.
