Wormwood is an exciting fantasy book for young readers. It is the second book in a series by Graham Taylor. This story continues the adventures of Dr. Sabian Blake and his helper, Agetta Lamian. The book is a type of story called a Christian allegory. This means it uses fantasy events and characters to share ideas and lessons related to Christian beliefs.

The author, Graham Taylor, explained that this book was written to challenge certain spiritual ideas. He focused on practices he believed were not good.

The Story of Wormwood

A Comet Approaches Earth

The story begins in London, where Dr. Sabian Blake is in his attic. He uses his telescope to look at the stars from his house in Bloomsbury Square. Dr. Blake is searching for a very special star. He learned about this star from an old and secret book called The Nemorensis.

This ancient book has a scary prediction. It says that a comet named Wormwood is heading straight for Earth. This comet was also mentioned in an old prophecy from the book of Revelation. If it hits, it could bring disaster to London and other places around the world.

Strange Events in London

While Dr. Blake is watching the sky, strange and powerful events suddenly hit London. These events are called a 'sky-quake'. After the sky-quake, horses and dogs in the city go completely wild. They start attacking people everywhere.

These strange happenings are caused by an evil being named Pyratheon. He is using a powerful force called the Keruvim in the north. Pyratheon is trying to use this power to overthrow Riathamus, who represents God in the story.

Meet Agetta Lamian

We then meet Agetta Lamian. She is Dr. Blake's servant girl. Agetta's father, Cadmus Lamian, owns a lodging house on Fleet Street.

An Evil Plan Unfolds

As the story continues, it becomes clear that Pyratheon has an evil sister named Yerzinia. Yerzinia is also using The Nemorensis. She plans to use the book to call down the Wormwood comet. Her goal is to destroy London and then rebuild it in her own dark and twisted way.
