History of School Districts
The schools in Wright have changed districts several times over the years. This can happen when school districts merge to create larger ones.
Before 1983, Wright was part of the Plum Bayou-Tucker School District. On July 1, 1983, this district joined with another to form the Wabbaseka Tucker School District.
Later, on September 1, 1993, the Wabbaseka-Tucker district merged again. It joined with the Altheimer-Sherrill School District. This new, larger district was called the Altheimer Unified School District. It operated Altheimer-Sherrill High School.
This Altheimer Unified School District then merged into the Dollarway School District on July 10, 2006. After this merger, Altheimer-Sherrill High School closed in 2007. Its students moved to Dollarway High School. Another school, Altheimer Martin Elementary School, closed in 2013.
Recent Changes to Schools
In December 2020, the Arkansas State Board of Education made a big decision. They decided that the Dollarway School District would merge into the Pine Bluff School District. This change happened on July 1, 2021.
After the merger, the new Pine Bluff School District took over all the schools from both districts. For the 2021–2022 school year, the areas where students went to school stayed the same. All the land that was part of the Dollarway district became part of the Pine Bluff School District. The only exception was for pre-kindergarten students. All pre-kindergarten students in the Pine Bluff School District, including those from the former Dollarway area, now go to Forrest Park/Greenville School.
In 2023, the district announced more changes. Dollarway High School would merge with Pine Bluff High School. Also, Morehead Middle School would become the only middle school for the entire Pine Bluff School District.
