A Look at School District Changes Over Time

Sherrill used to have its own school district, which ran Sherrill Elementary School. In 1979, the Sherrill district merged with the Altheimer district to form the Altheimer-Sherrill district.

Later, in 1993, the Altheimer-Sherrill district joined with the Altheimer Unified School District. This new district operated Martin Elementary School and Altheimer-Sherrill High School.

In 2006, the Altheimer Unified School District merged into the Dollarway School District. Altheimer-Sherrill High School closed in 2007, and its students moved to Dollarway High. Altheimer Martin Elementary School closed in 2013.

More recently, in December 2020, the Arkansas State Board of Education decided that the Dollarway School District would merge with the Pine Bluff School District. This merger happened on July 1, 2021. This means all schools from both districts are now part of the Pine Bluff School District.

In 2023, it was announced that Dollarway High School would merge into Pine Bluff High School. Also, Morehead Middle School would become the only middle school for the entire Pine Bluff School District.
