The Story of the Wright-Brooks House
Who Built This Historic Home?
In 1840, Daniel and Eunice Pratt moved to Marshall. Daniel was a jeweler, making and selling beautiful jewelry. He probably started building this house in 1841. It was ready just in time for his daughter's wedding in 1842.
The Wright Family Moves In
Daniel Pratt's daughter married George S. Wright. George was a businessman and banker who came to Marshall in 1835. In 1849, the Pratts moved to Niles, Michigan. They left the house to their daughter and son-in-law, the Wrights. Daniel Pratt passed away ten years later.
George Wright kept working at a bank until he retired. After retiring, he moved away from Marshall. He left the house to his son. George Wright died in 1893. The Wright family owned the house until 1934.
How Harold Brooks Saved the House
In 1934, a man named Harold C. Brooks bought the house. He was a "preservationist." This means he worked to save and restore old buildings. Brooks fixed up the house for his son, Craig. Craig lived in the house for many years, even into the 1970s.

Architectural Style and Features
The Wright-Brooks House is a single-story home. It is made of brick and has a sloped roof called a gable roof. The house sits on a strong foundation made of sandstone. There is also a wooden addition at the back of the house.
The Grand Entrance
One of the most special parts of the house is its front entrance. It has a beautiful porch supported by four thin, elegant columns. This style is called Greek Revival. The entrance itself is very fancy. It has special trim around the door, tall windows on the sides, and a window above the door. The porch windows are also very tall, reaching almost to the floor.
