Xandru Fernández, born in 1970 in Turón, Asturias, Spain, is a well-known writer. He writes in the Asturian language. He is one of the most active authors from a group called the Surdimientu, which helped bring new life to Asturian literature. Xandru has written many books, including seven novels, four books of poetry, and two shorter novels called novellas. He has also translated works by famous writers like Franz Kafka, Thomas Mann, and Friedrich Nietzsche.

Besides writing books, Fernández also writes song lyrics. He is known for working with the Asturian rock band Dixebra.

His Life and Work

Xandru Fernández studied philosophy at the University of Oviedo. Today, he teaches philosophy at a public school in Luanco.

He has won several awards for his writing. These include the Xosefa de Xovellanos prize for stories, which he won in both 1994 and 1999. He has also helped start many cultural projects. He was part of the team that created the essay magazine Tiempu de Nós.
