Xavier Trias i Vidal de Llobatera (born August 5, 1946) is a Spanish politician. He is a member of the political group Together for Catalonia. From July 2011 to June 2015, he served as the Mayor of Barcelona. He also held important roles in the Government of Catalonia, including Minister of Health and Minister of the Presidency under Jordi Pujol's governments.

About Xavier Trias
Xavier Trias i Vidal de Llobatera was born in Barcelona, Spain, on August 5, 1946. He is married and has four children and six grandchildren. He has been involved in politics since 1979, when he joined the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia party.
His Education and Early Career
Xavier Trias studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Barcelona, finishing his degree in 1970. He chose to specialize in pediatrics, which is the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents.
After his studies in Barcelona, he continued his training abroad. Between 1971 and 1973, he went to Genoa, Italy, and Bern, Switzerland. In Switzerland, he spent about a year and a half researching and treating metabolic diseases. These are conditions where the body has problems breaking down food for energy.
From 1974 to 1981, he worked as a pediatrician at the Children's Hospital in Vall d'Hebron, Barcelona. During this time, he also served on national hospital boards, helping to guide healthcare policies.
Working in Healthcare Leadership
In 1981, Xavier Trias started working for the Department of Health and Social Security of the Generalitat of Catalonia. This is the government of the Catalonia region. He became the Head of Hospital Care. He later became the Director General of Health Planning in 1983.
In July 1984, he was named Director General of the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS). He held this important position until July 1988. He then became the Minister of Health for Catalonia. He is known for helping to develop Catalonia's healthcare system, which is highly respected internationally.
Becoming a Minister of the Presidency
On January 12, 1996, Xavier Trias was appointed Minister of the Presidency. In this role, he worked closely with President Jordi Pujol. During this period, the government created the Catalonia Broadcasting Council (CAC). This council helps regulate broadcasting in the region. They also improved working conditions for government officials, making it easier for them to balance work and family life.
Serving in the Spanish Parliament
In March 2000, he ran for election to the Congress in Spain. He won the election and became the President and Spokesperson for the Catalan Parliamentary Group in the Congress. He also chaired the Committee on Science and Technology, focusing on new developments in these fields.
Mayor of Barcelona
On June 5, 2010, Xavier Trias was chosen as the candidate for Mayor of Barcelona. He had already been a member of the Barcelona City Council since 2003. On May 22, 2011, he won the elections with 29% of the votes. He officially became the new mayor on July 2, 2011. As mayor, he worked on various projects for the city. For example, in July 2011, he opened the 5th edition of The Brandery show, which is a fashion event.
In March 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain, Xavier Trias was admitted to the hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. He was discharged from the hospital in April 2020.
