The Government of Catalonia (called Govern de Catalunya in Catalan) is the main part of the Generalitat of Catalonia. Think of it as the team of people who run the region of Catalonia. Their job is to make important decisions, create rules, and manage how Catalonia works every day.
The most important person in this government is the President of the Generalitat. They are like the leader of the whole team. The President can also choose a Vice-President to help them. This Vice-President needs to be approved by the Parliament of Catalonia.
The President also picks other people called consellers (ministers). Each minister is in charge of a specific area, like education or health. These ministers don't have to be members of the parliament, but they can still speak in parliamentary meetings.
Members of the government have special protection while they are working in Catalonia. They can only be arrested if they are caught doing something wrong right at that moment. If they need to go to court, their cases are handled by special higher courts.
In 2017, the Parliament of Catalonia declared Catalonia independent from Spain. Because of this, the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy decided to dissolve the Catalan Parliament. This meant the government was temporarily stopped, and a new election was called for 21 December 2017 to choose new leaders.

Sometimes, there are also ministers who don't have a specific department. These are called ministers without portfolio. They still help the government but don't lead a specific ministry. Two examples from Catalan governments are:

- Antoni Sesé i Artaso (from 5 May to 29 June 1937)
