Xzavion Curry's Professional Career

Joining the Cleveland Guardians

After his junior year, the Cleveland Indians picked Curry in the seventh round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. This means they chose him to play for their team. He signed with the Guardians.

Curry did not play right after signing. He also did not play in 2020. This was because minor league games were stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Climbing Through the Minor Leagues

Curry started playing professionally in 2021. He played for the Lynchburg Hillcats. Later that year, he moved up to the Lake County Captains. He then moved up again to the Akron RubberDucks.

In 2021, Curry started 19 games across these teams. He won 8 games and lost 1. His ERA was very low at 2.30. He also had 123 strikeouts in almost 98 innings. His ERA was one of the best in the minor leagues.

Making His MLB Debut

On August 14, 2022, the Guardians manager, Terry Francona, announced big news. Curry would play his first Major League Baseball game the next day! He started as a pitcher in a game against the Detroit Tigers. The game was at Progressive Field.

Curry wore number 71 for his debut. He pitched for five innings. He gave up 8 hits and 3 earned runs. He also walked one batter and struck out three. The Guardians lost the game 7–5.

Playing in 2023 and 2024

Curry started the 2023 season with the Triple-A Columbus team. But then, another pitcher got hurt. So, Curry joined the Guardians' main team. On April 3, he pitched for five innings in a game.

In 2024, Curry played in 7 games for Cleveland. He started 4 of those games. He pitched for almost 25 innings and had 15 strikeouts. On August 6, 2024, the Guardians decided to remove him from their main roster. This is called being "designated for assignment."

Joining the Miami Marlins

Just a few days later, on August 9, 2024, the Miami Marlins picked up Curry. This means they added him to their team. He now plays for the Marlins.
