A Long and Interesting History
Yıldız Technical University has a long history going all the way back to 1911. It started as a school to train "science officers," who were like today's technicians. These workers were needed for public projects like building roads and bridges.
Growing and Changing
Over the years, the school grew and changed its name several times. In 1922, it became the "School of Public Works." The time students spent studying there kept increasing, from two and a half years to three years.
As Turkey needed more skilled people, the school was changed again. It became a technical school that trained both technicians and professional engineers. For this new school, it was given buildings that were part of the famous Yıldız Palace, and some of these historic buildings are still used by the university today.
In the 1940s, the school added departments for electrical engineering and architecture. By 1969, it became an independent university.
Becoming YTU
The university got its final name, Yıldız Technical University, in 1992. The engineering department was split into four different faculties to focus on specific areas like electrical, construction, and mechanical engineering. A faculty for economics and business was also created. Today, YTU is a modern university with a rich past.
What Can You Study at YTU?
YTU is divided into different departments called faculties, where students can focus on specific subjects.
