Discovering Yagua's Past

How Yagua Began

The land where Yagua stands has been home to people for thousands of years. Early inhabitants were the indigenous people of the Tacarigua Lake, which is now called Lake Valencia.

The town of Yagua was officially founded on February 20, 1694. This happened at the same time as the nearby city of Guacara was founded. For a long time, until 1935, a large part of the Yagua area was owned by a person named Pimentel. He was a friend of a powerful leader in Venezuela at that time, Juan Vicente Gómez.

Yagua became a rural parish on June 27, 1988. This means it became an official local administrative area.
