Yakup Satar (born March 11, 1898 – died April 2, 2008) was a very special person. Many believe he was the last soldier from the Ottoman Empire who fought in World War I. He lived to be 110 years old!

A Long Life: Yakup Satar
Early Life and World War I
Yakup Satar was born in a place called Crimea. In 1915, he joined the army of the Ottoman Empire. This was during World War I, a huge global conflict.
On February 23, 1917, something big happened. Yakup Satar was captured by the British army. This happened during a battle near Baghdad, called the Second Battle of Kut.
Fighting for Turkey
After World War I ended, Yakup Satar was set free. He then joined a new fight. He served with the forces of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. This was during the Turkish War of Independence. This war lasted from 1919 to 1923.
His Later Years
Just before his 110th birthday, Yakup Satar had a small infection. He was treated at a military hospital. Soon after, he went home. He lived with his daughter in a town called Seyitgazi. This town is in the Eskişehir area.
Yakup Satar passed away shortly after turning 110 years old.
A Story Told in Film
Yakup Satar's memories are very important. His stories from the War of Independence were shared. He also talked about his daily life. These memories, along with those of two other veterans, Ömer Küyük and Veysel Turan, were put into a movie.
The film is called Son Buluşma. This means The Last Meeting in English. Nesli Çölgeçen directed this documentary film in 2007.
