Yamaranguila is a town in Honduras. It is a special kind of area called a municipality. It is located in the Intibucá region. About 21,000 people live there.
Yamaranguila is known for being one of the coldest places in Honduras. Because of its cool climate, it is one of the few areas where strawberries can grow well. Many people living here are from the Lenca indigenous group.
What Makes Yamaranguila Special?
Yamaranguila is home to the traditional Guancascos parade. This special event happens during its yearly fair in early December. The Guancascos is a ceremony where two towns come together in friendship.
Most homes in the main part of town have electricity and running water. The 24 villages around Yamaranguila are also growing and developing.
Who Lives in Yamaranguila?
In 2013, a count of the people in Yamaranguila showed that 21,025 people lived there. Most of them, about 90%, were Indigenous people. The largest group among them were the Lenca.
Other groups included:
- About 9% were Mestizo, which means they have mixed European and Indigenous backgrounds.
- A small number were White.
- Even fewer were Black or Afro-Honduran.
